The [hid] toolkit: a unified framework for instrument design

چکیده

The [hid] toolkit is a set of software objects for designing computer-based gestural instruments. All too frequently, computer-based performers are tied to the keyboard-mousemonitor model, narrowly constraining the range of possible gestures. A multitude of gestural input devices are readily available, making it easy to utilize a broader range of gestures. Human Interface Devices (HIDs) such as joysticks, tablets, and gamepads are cheap and can be good musical controllers. Some even provide haptic feedback. The [hid] toolkit provides a unified, consistent framework for getting gestural data from these devices, controlling the feedback, and mapping this data to the desired output. The [hid] toolkit is built in Pd, which provides an ideal platform for this work, combining the ability to synthesize and control audio and video. The addition of easy access to gestural data allows for rapid prototypes. A usable environment also makes computer music instrument design accessible to novices.

Generalized Constraint-Based Inference

Constraint-Based Inference (CBI) is a unified framework that subsumes many practical problems in different research communities. These problems include probabilistic inference, decision-making under uncertainty, constraint satisfaction, propositional satisfiability, decoding problems, and possibility inference. Recently, researchers have presented various unified representation and algorithmic ...

A Unified Approach for Design of Lp Polynomial Algorithms

By summarizing Khachiyan's algorithm and Karmarkar's algorithm forlinear program (LP) a unified methodology for the design of polynomial-time algorithms for LP is presented in this paper. A key concept is the so-called extended binary search (EBS) algorithm introduced by the author. It is used as a unified model to analyze the complexities of the existing modem LP algorithms and possibly, help ...

A UML Framework for the Dimensioning and Formal Verification of Embedded Systems

The TURTLE UML profile and the open source toolkit TTool define a formal modeling and verification framework for communicating embedded systems design. The paper extends TURTLE and TTool with network calculus techniques. Dimensioning diagrams enable system dimensioning prior to usual object-oriented design and facilitates formal verification of design models. The paper uses a video-conferencing...
